So, when life is too dull she calls on him to visit. At times she feels the charming man is the only one who understands her need to be extordinary and that she is better than the tiny town she lives in. Young Charlie Newton not only shares a name with her favorite uncle, but a special bond. However, Uncle Charlie is being pursued by a couple of detectives who suspect him of being “The Merry Widow Murderer”, an evil strangler wanted in connection with the deaths of several rich East coast widows. On arrival at the telegraph office she discovers he is already on his way. The Newton’s eldest daughter, ‘young Charlie’, decides that things need brightening up and resolves to contact her Uncle Charlie (after whom she is named) and invite him to stay. The Newton family lead a quiet life in the North California town of Santa Rosa. Shadow of a Doubt is a 1943 thriller directed by Alfred Hitchcock and written by Thornton Wilder, Sally Benson and Alma Reville, starring Teresa Wright, Joseph Cotten, MacDonald Carey, Patricia Collinge, Henry Travers and Hume Cronyn.
